Why Did Astrology Start?
Why did astrology start? There is no definitive answer, but we can draw some conclusions from astrology and how it used to deduce the reason for starting it.
There is no written record regarding the start of astrology. This is not so much due to any intentional lack of writing as it is the fact astrology is so ancient. From earliest man, we know that people looked up to the heavens for guidance. The earliest record we have of this is nearly four millennium BC. The records kept in that time are, obviously, very limited, but it is clear that humans were looking to celestial bodies for guidance.
Why did astrology start? The most likely reason experts can agree on is based on the simplest of techniques – observance. You either believe everything is random or that there are rhythms in the universe. Early astrologers clearly observed that certain events and traits occurred during certain periods of time that could be represented by the movement of the planets, moon and sun through the heavens.

We can even see this in our modern times. How so? The answer is simple. Ask any police officer about how the behavior of people changes on a full moon. Simply put, the number of strange and violent acts goes through the roof. This is known as the “lunar effect”. Indeed, the term “lunacy” comes from the ancient belief that the location of the moon impacts the behavior of people.
Ultimately, astrology started as a means for people to explain what has happened to them, what is happening to them and what will happen to them. The past…the present…the future. As time has passed, the process has gained credence as civilizations such as the Mayans, Hindu, Greeks, Romans and modern leaders like President Regan have looked to the celestial bodies and psychic readings for guidance.
Why did astrology start? To provide answers to the questions we all have about love and life in general. Hundreds of millions of people have looked to it for guidance throughout history, which certainly suggests there is more than a bit of validity to it. President Regan and his wife Nancy certainly looked to readings on a daily basis.
